By now it's probably obvious that i'm not a huge fan of Politico, as I see it as "village groupthink" in DC. With that, here's their latest senseless rambling:
Now I am by no means the biggest cheerleader of Pelosi in the world, but this is pretty much unjust criticism. If she deserves fault for her leadership, it is mostly for the losses in 2010, not in 2014. What happened this year was difficult to stop from the minority, where you don't have as many favors to call in, and less ability to get that last minute money into tough races. If you're in the minority, and there's a wave against you, you just have to hope for the best and ride it out. They didn't get the best. If you want to slam Pelosi for the fall of the Blue Dogs in 2010, or for not getting the House back in 2012 (slightly unfair, but ok), fine, I'll buy that. This is just low blows.
The reality is that the job of Minority Leader is mostly about your ability to hold the caucus together in legislative fights, and to reward members who do more to help win back the majority. Pelosi does those things well. So please, spare me about how the 2014 midterm was all about her. I'll take the Reid criticism, but criticizing her is a bit much.
The list of grievances — from the election losses, to routine procedures erupting into nasty fights — has shaken the confidence many Democrats hold in their leader. So while Pelosi was reelected unanimously by voice vote to the top House Democratic post on Tuesday during a closed-door party meeting — with no audible disagreement, according to a source in the room — the incoming minority leader is about to be in the worst position with her caucus since the end of their short-lived majority in 2010.Well now... "so while Pelosi was reelected unanimously"..... Yeah, that's a minor detail here. Pelosi has so many problems with her caucus that she was re-elected unanimously. Makes sense guys....
