I don't think Harry Reid is in any danger of losing his hold as Democratic, now Minority, Leader in the Senate. Whether he should be or not is a different question altogether, as Senator McCaskill wants him out. Senator Reid though, has a tough re-election ahead. If the Governor of Nevada chooses to run for his Senate seat, Reid is probably not going to survive. That means a leadership election is on the horizon at some point.
Which leads me to the decision to elevate Elizabeth Warren into leadership in some kind of made-up role. I think I like it more than I don't, though I'm struggling to see the point of it beyond appeasing activists. Unless she actually has control over something, which maybe she will on policy, why bother?
Warren is not my first choice to be the next Democratic leader (that's Bob Menendez), but she'd definitely be my second. I like her, I think she's a great Senator, and I think she could be very dynamic leading us in the Senate for years to come. Democrats have to start thinking of who we will elevate nationally in years to come, as Pelosi and Reid can't lead the DC Democratic establishment forever.
