So Northampton County Executive John Brown submitted a budget that balances on the backs of the workers of the county and a line of credit. The line of credit, worth $20 million or so, is illegal. The council rejected his budget, meaning it goes back to the Executive, and if no other budget passes by December 16th, it becomes law anyway.
I don't believe Brown will raise taxes, no matter what. He will either support an even more draconian budget, with deeper personnel cuts, or he'll let his current budget become law, because he disagrees that it's illegal. In other words, either the workers will get screwed more, or we'll have to foot the bill for legal fees.
Merry Christmas, Northampton County. Want a do-over on 2013 yet?
