As July came to an end, the Summer was beginning to wind down. August means Musikfest here, and as usual, I was there a few night. Same for Palmer Community Days. And basically all the festivals. The Phillies were playing out the string, finishing out a pointless and pathetic season, but providing some entertainment. Football returned, as did silly season in the political arena. All of this lead me back to the campaign trail, to now Congresswoman-elect Bonnie Watson Coleman's campaign for NJ-12's Congressional seat. Ultimately, it was great to get back out there, and the campaign went well.
Here's the news of August:
- Musikfest 2014 did arrive in Bethlehem, and though I attended my lowest number of nights in recent history, all three or four nights were a lot of fun, as usual. I did get my 2014 mug. There was some violence though, which hurt the attendance.
- Beyonce said her husband takes his portion of the responsibility for her crazy sister attacking him. Yeah, not a good point for domestic abuse.
- Argentina defaulted on their debt, and was right to. The terms of payment were worse than default.
- Reagan Press Secretary James Brady, who's shooting was the main energy behind passing the "Brady Bill" on gun safety, died.
- Congressman Steven Palazzo sent bibles around the capitol to his fellow members.
- Congressman Mo Brooks said there is a "war on whites," basically a low point in white American history.
- Hawaii's Governor lost his primary, right after a Hurricane hit the islands.
- ISIS was taking over huge portions of Iraq and Syria. Iran of all nations wants to help us fight them. They talk tough, but we kill their chief spokesman.
- The first round of Ferguson protests hit their peak after the killing of Michael Brown by local police officer Darren Wilson. Actual tanks role into the crowds in Ferguson.
- Rob Manfred is named the new commissioner of baseball.
- Rick Perry is indicted for misusing his office.
- The ice-bucket challenge craze goes viral.
- The Clintons announced their return to Iowa for the Harkin Steak Fry.
