As August ended and September arrived, I went on a spree of baseball games at night. Philadelphia, Trenton, Lehigh Valley, Scranton-Wilkes-Barre, and yes, even New York. I went to five ball games in the final week of the season, and it was really fun. Then the election kicked into high gear, and basically took over my life until November. September is one of my favorite months, and this year was no exception.
- Minor League baseball season came to an end early in the month. None of the Phillies affiliates made the playoffs.
- The Phillies no-hit the Braves on Labor Day in Atlanta. Cole Hamels pitched, followed by Diekmann, Giles, and Papelbon, in a weird no-hitter.
- Football season arrived, and the Eagles got off to a fast start. It didn't hold up.
- Moravian College started off 2-0 as well. It sort of held up, for them.
- Easton got off to a fast start and won their first 12 games... before losing the last two.
- Penn State was freed of the Sandusky Sanctions.
- The NFL suspended Ray Rice for making them look bad.
- New York Governor Andrew Cuomo won by double digits, but didn't impress in his primary win over Zephyr Teachout.
- We had my second state committee meeting in Philadelphia, and didn't vote on much.
- The Clintons arrived back in Iowa for the final Harkin Steak Fry.
- Eric Frein shot two state troopers in the Poconos, then took us all on a manhunt that lasted weeks before being captured.
- Penn State beat Rutgers.
- The Palin family got into a fist-fight.
- Scotland held an independence vote, and the referendum failed by a larger than expected margin.
- Derek Jeter played his final baseball game, and his final game in New York. In his last home game, he had a walk-off single. In Boston, he left after two at-bats.
- Elvis, Pat Burrell's iconic bulldog from the 2008 Phillies parade, died :(.
- I attended my first ever San Gennaro Festival in New York City. I'll be attending my second next year.
- Paul Konerko retired after a great career in Chicago.
- Bobby Abreu, my favorite Phillies player, retired.
- Attorney General Eric Holder announced he's retiring.
- We finished our 24th year on our 17 game plan with the Phillies.
- Notre Dame started off red-hot in a season that eventually fell apart.
- I could basically write the same thing for Penn State as Notre Dame.
