As February turned to March, the year became more busy for me. Work was more frantic as the Affordable Care Act deadline approached. The Winter storms that had hammered us continued into the early part of the month, before we finally stopped having to watch Sheena Parveen give us the bad news (at least it was her though). Baseball season was approaching, and excitement around the Phillies was... eh, never mind. Anyway, March had it's news stories too.
- The Sixers retired Allen Iverson's number and gave him a championship belt. Iverson is my favorite player, ever.
- Russia invaded the Ukraine, and of course Americans debated if it was President Obama's fault or not. Russia annexed the Crimea region in the invasion, having a "referendum" there to make it okay of course. Months later, after some brutal sanctions and the "non-negotiation" with Saudi Arabia to tank oil prices, Russia is struggling to pay for their actions.
- Republicans won the special election in Florida's 13th district, setting off the first signs of the wave victory they'd later enjoy.
- Debo Adegbile's nomination to lead the Justice Department's Civil Rights division was torpedoed over his previous work for the NAACP, where he defended Mumia Abu-Jamal from the death penalty.
- Tom Corbett had a Republican challenger for a moment in the primary, but that was beaten in court.
- After a scare where I lost all of my petitions, I did qualify for the ballot to run for State Committee.
- Jay Paterno made, then was bounced from, the ballot for Lt. Governor.
- Fred Phelps, leader of the "God hates fags" Westboro Baptist Church, finally died.
- The Sixers long losing streak ran late into the season, falling just one short of the all-time worst.
- The feud between PA Attorney General Kathleen Kane and Frank Fina went public, and has since put her in front of a grand jury.
- Northampton County Executive John Brown's first contract for PR services was challenged.
- The deadline for signing up for health insurance coverage under the Affordable Care Act came on March 31st. I got myself a great plan on the exchanges.
- MLB's Opening Night arrived on the final night of March.
