PA Attorney General Kathleen Kane decided to not take the Corbett-era sting of a group of Philadelphia area state legislators because she thought the case was fatally flawed. Her argument was that the elected officials in question were being bribed to vote for something they'd back anyway, and that there were flaws in the very fake "bribes" themselves. I personally thought she was right. Philadelphia District Attorney Seth Williams disagreed.
So Williams is taking the case himself. Since the sting was held in Philadelphia, he has jurisdiction, and he's charging State Representatives Ronald Waters and Vanessa Lowery Brown. Waters, rather amazingly, is going to plead guilty- though not to bribery, but "conflict of interest" charges that kick him out of office, but let him keep his pension. I think he's a fool, but it's clear that his pension is first for him.
I don't like that Williams has decided to stick up for Frank Fina (Corbett's former deputy), but I do have to hand it to him, he's going for it here. If he wins this case, his case for Attorney General is strengthened.
