It was announced this morning that Green Day will enter the Rock-and-Roll Hall-of-Fame in the class of 2015. As someone who has been around since the "Dookie" days (I wasn't around for "Kerplunk," but I have it), I'm thrilled to see this. Green Day were rock icons in the 1990s, and really took "punk rock" to another level of commercial success. While today they may be just as known for their "American Idiot" success in the middle of the last decade, their staying power from the glory days of the 1990s is reason enough to put them in. Of course, I just would because I like their music.
